Hidden Dip Honey is a small scale apiary in North Devon – we keep a just a few colonies of bees. Our aim is to produce the most natural honey we can – unfiltered, unheated and in small batches. You can also ask us for honey in the comb – did you know that beeswax is edible?!
We make and use our own beeswax candles and hope to make these available in the future. We also supply pure beeswax to friends and family.
Our bees forage on a range of wildflowers in the nearby fields, hedgerows and woodlands. This includes plants like gorse, bramble, ivy, dandelion, hawthorn, sycamore, clover, and fruit blossom. This means we see a lot of variety in the flavour of our honey throughout the year.
Our Beekeeping Practices
At Hidden Dip Honey, we prioritise the well-being of our bees and the quality of our honey. We aim to be sustainable and care for both our bees and the environment that supports us. The nectar from a diverse range of local flora contributes to the unique flavor profile of our honey. We harvest honey only when there is a surplus, ensuring our bees have enough to sustain themselves through the winter months. This approach not only benefits the bees but also results in a higher quality product.
Seasonal Honey Varieties
The changing seasons bring different flowers into bloom, resulting in a variety of honey flavors throughout the year. In spring, our bees often produce a light, delicate honey from fruit blossoms and early wildflowers. Summer brings a richer, more robust honey from plants like bramble and clover. Autumn honey tends to be darker and more full-bodied – some people enjoy honey with notes of ivy although we prefer to leave it for the bees!
We encourage our customers to try honey from different seasons to experience the full range of flavors that North Devon’s flora has to offer. Each jar of Hidden Dip Honey is a unique reflection of the local landscape and the incredible work of our bees.
